• Very quick knit completed in an evening watching TV.

• Opted not to do the cuff.
• Just knit in the round until the cap covered the earlobes, then SSK'd the crown down to 3 stitches on each of the 4 DPN for a total of 12 stitches.
• Grafted the top of the hat closed using the Kitchener Stitch.

They are done. Ils sont finit. I, literally, had about a foot of yarn left when all was said and done. Talk about cutting it close. *phew* Finally, got around to taking photos of the finished sock. Box will be shipped on Monday. YEAH! Am I the only one that noticed today is backward, 09/08/07? I wonder what the day has in store for me. *hmmm*

As usual, I'm right up against the deadline, but I'm confident I can get them finished in time. I've already done my goodie shopping, so all I'll need to do is finish the socks and block 'em.

I didn't get a chance to concentrate on these last week during Stitches Midwest, but I'm back at it again and I'm nearing the finish line. It took some wrangling, but I figured out how to continue the stitch pattern up into the cuff. I just made the back the same as the front with some ribbing on the sides. *phew* I hope to be done with these just before the deadline. As usual...

The Chelonians, pronounced KEY LOW NIAN, are moving right along now. I'm turning the heel on one of them and I'll have that one day tonight, then I start turning the heel on the other sock tonight or tomorrow. All in all, I'm pretty confident that I'll have them both done before Cristi's birthday on August 10!

Project Details:
I've modified the original for 2 at once Magic Loop.
Instead of a traditional cast on called for in the original pattern, I used the provisional cast-on for each of the fingers. Using my Brittany 5" dpn, I knit each finger separately. I wanted the bound off edge to be the facing edge of fingers. I unzipped the provisional cast-on and evenly transferred the live finger stitches to my magic loop needle (Addi Turbo Lace Needle 47" US3).
Be sure to leave enough yarn tail so you can go back and close up the hole between the finger joins.

It took me a while to decipher the thumb join and gusset portion of the original pattern. With the thumb's live stitches on 2 dpns, you'll transfer each half of the thumb live stitches to each side of the palm. On the working side, knit across the thumb stitches until you are 2 stitches before end of the thumb stitches and work a ssk, place a marker, then k2tog on first 2 palm stitches, knit across both palms ending with k2tog, place marker. Next, you'll place the live stitches of the other thumb on to the needles for the other palm. ssk first 2 thumb stitches, knit remaining thumb stitches, turn, knit to last 2 thumb stitches, ssk, place marker, k2tog first 2 stitches of palm, knit across palms. This joined the thumbs to the palms.

Basically, the thumb gussets are formed by:

• K 2 rounds.
• Next Round: K to 2 sts before first marker, k2tog, k to second marker, ssk, k to end.
• Repeat these 3 rounds 4[5, 6] times more, removing markers on last round. 34[42, 50] sts.

Lookie here at this piece of genius I found regarding weaving in the ends! THANK YOU TECHKNITTING!

FO: The Simple Eyelet Washcloth

OH MY GAWD! I FINISHED SOMETHING! It's a frickin' miracle I tell you! Throw another FO on the barbie, mate! Extra bonus and a gold star for using my stash! *bows deeply*

I call her the "Simple Eyelet Washcloth" taken from the Lion Brand Stitchfinder library.

Knit using 3/4 of a ball of Lily Sugar & Cream in White on US 10 with a 44 stitch cast on.

Approximate size before washing is 12" x 12" square. It'll shrink down to about 7" x 7" after washing. Something to keep in mind when dealing with cotton....the shrinkage factor.

Check out the difference in size between my newly finished Simple Eyelet and the Ruggles Turkish Washcloth I did back in October! *geez*

I, FINALLY, finished my FIRST PAIR OF SOCKS EVER! Technically, they aren't my first pair of socks, but they are my first pair of sock yarn socks. My first pairs of socks were the fuzzy feet. OK! So, it took me 3 months to finish these guys, but they are complete. Ain't they cute?

I am having so much fun making my first pair of socks that I can't put them down now. The instep is the Waffle Rib from Sensational Knitted Socks. I love the Aloha Fan Toe and Queen Kahuna's No Wrap No Gap Heel. Check out the lovely gusset increases and the sexy short row heel. YEAH BABY!

I am a devout fan of Queen Kahuna's Crazy Toes & Heels book. I've followed it to a "T" and she hasn't lead me wrong yet. Now, this book isn't for everyone as it is VERY wordy, but it has lots and lots of COLOR illustrations that lead you baby step by baby step through the whole process of making 2 socks on 2 circulars either toe-up or cuff down.

...and the best thing is that I'll have a pair of socks when I'm done!!! No, Second Sock Syndrome (SSS) for me.

FO: Toe Up Fuzzy Feet

This is my attempt at making a pair of huge toe-up socks that will become a pair of felted slippers. Created toe-up using the "2 socks on 2 circulars" method.

Toe Up Fuzzy Feet
adapted from Knitty! Fuzzy Feet by Theresa Vinson Stenersen

Materials
- (2) US11 24" circulars
- 3 skeins Patons Classic Merino Wool. I used Bright Red.

* I wound the original skeins into 4 smaller balls for each sock. The extra skein is just in case.

- Stitch markers

Gauge: 3 sts. by 5 rows holding 2 strands together.

Finishsed Unfelted Size: 7" wide by 12" long

Finished Felted Size: 6" wide by 10" long

Cast on 9 sts.

Weave in the loose ends to reinforce the toe.
Increase using your favorite method to 22 sts. on each circular; a total of 44 sts.

Continue to the desired foot length, then begin gusset increases.
- In my case, for 10" foot begin gusset increases 4" from toe.

Choose one side of the socks as the heels and work the instep stitches without increases.
Begin working the gusset increases on both sides of each heel.
At the 6th gusset increase, begin slipstich under the heel.

Continue to work gusset increases incorporating the slipstitching until you have 15 sts. on each side of the heel.

Stop the gusset increases and continue in the slipstitch pattern for the heel turn another 2 inches for a total of 12 inches for the sole of the slipper.

Begin turning the heel, leaving 9 sts. in the center.

Join the heel and gusset stitches.

End on the outside (knit side) with x sts. on the left and x sts. on the right sides of the heels.

You'll have xx sts. on the heel side and xx sts. on the instep for each sock.
* You can increase 2 sts. on each side of the heel if you want.

Work the cuff for 2 and bind off loosely using crochet hook.

The socks are ready to felt at this point. Keeping in mind that they will shrink more lengthwise than widthwise.

Recently, I decided to make a pair of fuzzy feet slippers for my Nanny's Christmas present. I wish I had modified the pattern to do these the Crazy Toes & Heels way instead of a traditional cuff down heel flap way. As a matter of fact, as I type this I'm thinking that I should just frog the pair I just finished and redo them. *sigh*
I just don't like the holey gusset and heel join and the lumpy heel turn and I REALLY don't like kitchnering the toe shut. I bet I can eeeck out a pair of fuzzy feet in a couple days the CTH way now.

OK! For some reason, it just dawned on me that I could knit a few Christmas gifts.
*faceplams* WHY NOW! *shrug* I on't know! *sigh*

So, I thought I might up the anty a bit and try to crank out a couple fuzzy feet before I go home for the holidays. They would be the perfect gift for my nanny since she mainly putters around the house now anyway. If I can muster another pair, I'll gift those to my mommy.

Looks like the fuzzy feet are a perfect candidate for 2 at since the heel flap is the same as the stitches on one circular, i.e. heel flap = 22 sts and you cast on 44 sts. total.

*fingers crossed* Here we go!

FO: Mason Dixon Knitting: Absorba, The Great Bathmat

I've got yet ANOTHER WIP... I'm in desperate need of a bathmat for my new masterbath, so I decided to make Absorba, The Great Bathmat from Mason Dixon Knitting.
I'm using 3 strands of Bernat Cottontot in Wonder White on US13.
I love the way it feels and looks so far. I anticipate I'll be done with it by this weekend.

FO: The Ruggles Not Quite Authentic Turkish Bath Scrub Cloth

...c'est finit!

Yes, she is done and quite lovely. So much so that I had to take the ole washcloth for a spin before I even took the time to weave in the ends. The bobbles feel heavenly as they gently exfoliate your body. I did, however, notice that the washcloth stretches under the weight of the water and soap, so I'm thinking about frogging it and reknitting in a smaller gauge. I just don't like the way it splays out over the palm as you bathe.

Washcloth particulars:
I used Lily Sugar & Creme on US 08 needles and cast on 52 stitches for a final size of 10.5" x 10.5"

This time, I'm going to go swatch the pattern stitch using US05 and wet the swatch to see what it looks like before going forward.

FO: Vogue Knitting Holiday 2003 - The Shawl Collar Jacket

I FINISHED IT! I sewed it together and it's done! YES! Throw another FO on the barbee!
This sweater has been 2 years in the making and I was finally motivated to seam the pieces together because it will come in handy next week in San Francisco and Los Angeles. I used Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick & Quick in Charcoal and let me tell you...this bad boy is HEAVY!
Nope, can't buy 'em in the store like this anymore. Nothing like a nice snuggly handmade sweater to warm the cockles of your heart. *awwww*

FO: Knitty Cigar Gloves

I am happy to report that my Cigar Gloves are FINALLY complete. :)

SEE! Now, they will find their way to the Middle East where some lonely, demoralized soldier might find solice in a pair of warm gloves and hat for the upcoming harsh winter nights out on patrol. *sigh*

FO: FAIT ACCOMPLI!

OH YES I DID! I finished my oldest Work In Progress (WIP) today (the Soft & Sweet Baby Afghan)! That makes 3 Finished Objects (FO) this week! I finished the Seaman's Cap Tuesday night, finished the Soft & Sweet Baby Afghan Thursday afternoon and finished Kate the Kitty Cat Thursday night! The Seaman's Cap is the first of many that I will be knitting for my brother and the rest of his squadron in Iraq. The Soft and Sweet Baby Afghan will go to my sister Benita who, recently, had her first baby, a girl. Kate the Kitty Cat will go to my niece, Kayla when she comes to visit me this summer!
